Disability Awareness week 1,
We would all like to say a massive thank you to everybody that booked in and raced yesterday for our first week’s Disability awareness.
29 racers attended and not one person complained.
We have to point out that we have not designed any track for these meetings any easier than normal but instead we actually added a new obstacle to make part of the track slippery! This part was donated by Lee Venables who ended up not liking the feature lol. Lee thank you so much for the donation we will be using them again lol!
It was interesting talking to racers throughout the night and getting their points of view on sitting down whilst racing. The majority of racers actually preferred it to standing up as they found it more relaxing, where some found it more difficult as the visibility of the track was reduced!
At the start of the night, it was agreed that our young racers could stand up and race due to their height however every single child said they wanted to experience racing sitting down like our regular racer Pete Evans who is in a wheelchair. This brought a lump in my throat as it shows how caring and understanding the young racers at our club are. To put it into perspective our young superstars ages range from 6yrs to 13yrs and are a massive credit to their parents, the hobby, and our club!
Next week will be the same but with a different track layout.
If anybody took pictures of the meeting, please could you post them, so we can all have a laugh at our own expense.
Please remember not only are you supporting our club but by attending you are raising money for charity.
